Ben Swanson - Secretly Canadian

"Five digressions"

Thanks to a friend of ours who sent us some albums of Songs: Ohia, Ativin, June Panic, Sarah White, Drunk... we discovered the existence of Secretly Canadian and Jagjaguwar, the great twin labels from Bloomington. Some years after this discovery, we are still happy when we read the announcement for the new relases of the two labels : for instance Julie Doiron on Jagjaguwar and Windsor for the Derby on Secretly Canadian. So let's go for the five digressions with Ben Swanson, a staff member of Secretly Canadian!

These are the five words that Ben Swanson picked:
Turbulence
Technology
Atitlan
Anthony Kulig
Douchey

Turbulence
I'm currently on a plane to Seattle, WA... I've been flying - or rather a passenger - since I was 2, but I've noticed as I get older and older I become more and more petrified of flying... not of some nutcase hijacking the plane, but some weird act of nature that decides large hunks of metal aren't supposed to be shooting across the sky, so she retaliates with a huge burst of wind, turning the plane over, upside down and into the ground below... At 26, I'm a fucking petrified geezer...

Technology
I love that some technologies, portable technology actually makes certain things easier... and not having a cell phone means I don't have to talk on the phone when I leave my home... suckers...

Atitlan
Possibly the most beautiful place in the world... Not a day goes by when I don't think about it.... A place where the community surrounds the square to watch the worst basketball players on the face of the planet as an auctioneer does the play-by-play and his daughter blasts the most triumphant epic jams... Where roosters and dogs share the streets and little boys sell you doughnuts... And the lake is your bath.....

Anthony Kulig
I hate shout-outs but he does some of the most striking work I've ever seen... Please look into it....

Douchey
It wins the adjective of the year award... Plus it's just fun to say... Dooooouuussshhheeee...
